About Dorado Beach Resort

main

You wake up to the smell of freshly ground Puerto Rican coffee, put your board shorts on and head out in your golf cart while the sun is still rising over the lush mountains that surround the property.  A few early birds, joggers and landscapers wave goodbye, as you cruise through the golf courses and the tropical winding paths on your way to the beach. You’ve arrived at the lookout; waves are glassy, turquoise blue,  and you are the first soul there…

This morning routine, far from the daily stresses of city life, is just one of the many reasons my husband and I fell in love with Dorado Beach.  Also, we have many of those “aha!” moments as we enjoy beach sunsets with mojito’s on hand with fellow kitesurfer friends, as we high-five each other for scoring some great kite rides on the outer reef.  All this, while all our kids play and run around with sandy feet and undeniable freedom.

As owners of the Resort’s water sports management company we know what makes this location world-class for kitesurfing, surfing and the other sports that we offer. As residents we know the community in depth, the real estate landscape and the financial benefits associated with residency. But most important, as parents we know that we have made the right decision to make this the home of our kids for many years to come.

Dorado Beach History

main

The history of Dorado Beach began in 1905 when Dr. Alfred Livingston purchased 1,700 acres along the northern coast and built a plantation for citrus and coconuts. The land was bought in 1955 by Laurance S. Rockefeller, son of John D. Rockefeller Jr., who turned it into a resort and wildlife preserve three years later. Regular visitors included John F. Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Ava Gardner, and Amelia Earhart once flew her plane to the island where the same landing strip still exists.

Rockefeller explained to Livingston his plan to buy the Dorado Beach site and build the first eco-resort in the Caribbean. The renowned architectural visionaries and design innovators have upheld respect for the environment.

Today, Dorado Beach serves as the home for a number of communities, championship golf courses, restaurants, and the 5-star Hotel Dorado Beach, a Ritz Carlton Reserve.
